STOP Illinois SB 2075

Illinois SB 2075 purpose is to lower the compulsory age in Illinois from 6 to 5. This bill if passed and made into law will apply to children, public, private and homeschoolers. Over the last couple of weeks while the bill was in committee many Illinoisian tried to voice their opposition to the bill and filled out witness slips.  Over 2200 witness slips were filled out saying NO to this bill; on the other hand 7 that's right 7 1.2.3.4.5.6.7 slips were filled out saying yes.

Why would the education committee move to go ahead and pass the bill and move it out of committee when there is strong vocal opposition to the bill?  Simple! They have an agenda and that agenda is to ultimately make it mandatory for 3-year-olds to be in school! Yes, you read that right 3-year-olds.

This is something I and others have been saying about common core standards and the agenda behind it and many of the educational policies that have already been handed out and others that will be coming down the pike.

There is still time and the ability to stop SB 2075! You need to call YOUR state senator! You need to write emails to your senator! You need to contact Sen. Lightford the sponsor of the bill and say NO!  You need to do this now! This bill can be voted on as soon as March 26th, 2019. These actions need to take place before the 26th.

I know many of you have already done this but do it again. I also think because it's clear our pleads are falling on deaf ears our opinions must be made public too.  Sen. Lightford has a post about this on her facebook page. Go to that post and make your opinions known publically there. Tag your senator in your comment about SB 2075.  I have made doing that easier by embedding the post here.

Go to your senator's facebook page and make a post on their page if they allow visitors to make a post and let them know publically how you feel about SB 2075. I'm saying do all of this publically too because it's falling on deaf ears and I feel we need to shed a light on it. We need to be vocal publically! We need to let others see how there is a loud public outcry saying NO to this, but yet Sen. Lightford and her ilk still want to ram it in. Spread the word and encourage others in your circles to do the same.

Even if you feel there is nothing wrong with kids going to school as young as 5 please stand with those that don't want this and say NO.

You are already free to have your kids go to school at 5 if you desire. You can send them to public schools or private schools (even if I don't agree with those options). If you homeschool you can start formal education that young. It's your choice, nothing is stopping you from making those choices about your child's education.

However, not everyone feels formal schooling, in any form, is good for young children, for children 5 and younger and those parents need to be able to maintain those rights. Those parents need to be able to say NO! This is why we need your support too.  We need to let PARENTS decide if formal education at 5 or younger is appropriate for their children.

Also, legislators have already acknowledged that the ultimate goal is mandatory education for 3-year-olds. Allowing SB 2075 is just allowing a step closer to that goal!! Please do not let that happen! Speak up NOW; say NO NOW!

Now not everyone on the education committee said yes. There were a few that said no, but that "no" wasn't enough to stop it from leaving committee.  If your senator is on the education committee and one of the ones that said NO you need to thank them and encourage them to continue to vote no as this bill moves through the legislative process and convince their colleagues to do the same.
