Of course, I'm not Methodist, but what I don't understand is why those that don't agree with the policies and reaffirmation of those policies just don't start their own church. Why don't they just break away?
I mean throughout church history that is what has happened. That's is what happen with King Henry - Anglican. Luther, Calvin, Knox and the others. That's how Mormonism, Baptist, Amish, etc all came about. Granted I'm oversimplifying it, but that's how they came out to be.
I think that's why there is different sects of Lutheranism: ELCA, Missouri Synod, WELS, etc.
Perhaps, in some cases, it wasn't meant to be a new church, new sect and just looking to reform within, but in the end, that seems to be what happened. So I don't know why in 2019 people just can't cut to the quick and just get on with it and start their own church. I don't understand why those within the Methodist Church that don't agree with the policies and stance just don't break away and adopt policies and stances they do agree with. I don't know why they put so much energy in demanding change. I often feel the same about those that push for women priest within the Catholic Church. -- just break away and do your own thing already!
