Weddings, License, Officiant

So about a week ago on Facebook, I made a post about the low numbers of weddings at my church over the last year.

Over the weekend I talked to a guy that DJs weddings. He mentioned how things have changed and how untraditional weddings have become  They don't want the bridal party announced, they are not throwing the bouquet, etc.

The conversation then moved on how the officiant is not even a pastor now. That church weddings, in general, are down, it's more or less get married at the same venue as the reception, and how the officiant is not even a pastor. It's a family friend, a friend of the couple, and thanks to the internet anyone can be an officiant.

That made me wonder if this, the way millennials are approaching weddings, is the reason why numbers are low.
